Imran Okoth is the mp-elect for Kibra constituency in a highly staked mini elections, thus securing Raila’s bedroom from external intrusion. Vote counting started immediately after the completion of the voting exercise, and results started trickling in as early as 7pm. As soon as results started streaming, Imran was leading by a comfortable margin.
Imran Okoth garnered 24, 646 votes, followed by Mariga who got 11,230 votes. Eliud Owalo of ANC came third with 5,275 votes.
Both ODM and Jubilee had set up parallel tallying centers, and had already gathered the full results ahead of IEBC. ODM secretary General, in a celebratory mood exuded confidence to the effect that he had confidence that their candidate had carried the day.
The mini poll was replete of drama, as some jubilee leaders were roughed up by ODM youths who accused them of trying to issue bribes. Former Kakamega Senator Dr. Bonnie Khalwale found himself in an awkward situation that prompted him to pick some stones for self-defense. Kimilili legislature Didmus Barasa was bullied, after an altercation with Dagoretti MP Simba Arati, to the extent of losing his signature hat.
Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga was the first one to concede defeat, a few minutes to 11pm. In a short video call, Mariga congratulated Imran Okoth in advance.
