Top brass politicians across the political divide camped in Kibra constituency to monitor the mini poll that commenced on Wednesday morning. Polling stations were open from 6 a.m. ODM leader Raila Odinga cast his vote at Old Kibra Primary school, alongside his wife Ida at 11a.m.
Low turnout characterized today’s polls owing to the nature of technicalities arising in conducting by-elections. ODM leaders had earlier urged their supporters to turn out in large numbers and practice their democratic right of choosing their next leader.
ODM Secretary General escorted the party’s candidate Imran Okoth to the polling station. ODM top brass camped in various polling stations to keep vigil of the voting process. Three people were arrested over alleged voter bribery.
Jubilee’s candidate also toured various stations to monitor the voting process. Both the ODM and Jubilee candidate were optimistic of winning. The highly staked contest has been reduced to a two horse affair between ODM’s Imran Okoth and Jubilee’s McDonald Mariga.
Claims of disenfranchisement arose when several people failed to find their names in the IEBC registry, and yet they were validly registered to vote. ODM had earlier requested IEBC to publish the names of voters alongside their identity card numbers.
