ODM leader Raila Odinga has triggered a new debate by opposing any act of subjecting the BBI recommendations to the mercies of Parliament.
In what appeared as renewed political battle, the doyen of opposition politics has rubbished off any move to subject the BBI report to the floor of the House for constitutional amendment.
Raila Odinga is of the fear that the magnanimous DP William Ruto can easily bribe MPs to manipulate the BBI report to suit his political ego. Ruto who is a potential successor of President Uhuru Kenyatta possess a great risk to Raila.
ODM party is of the opinion that the process should involve the People, and the people can only be involved through the national plebiscite. The Party fears that BBI might fail to meet the threshold of two-thirds majority to effect a constitutional amendment.
When the report was being unveiled in Bomas of Kenya, there was a great disconnect between Raila’s allies and Ruto’s foot soldiers. As Senate Minority leader Kipchumba Murkomen rose to the occasion to highlight the perceived discrimination of the invited Speakers, there was instantaneous heckling and booing renting the air led by team kieleweke and ODM member.
It took the intervention of BBI task force leader Yusuf Haji to calm the situation.
There is seemingly a political supremacy pitting DP William Ruto against the former Prime Minister. The bitter antagonism between the two political nemeses has created fissures and divisions with regard to the BBI report.
