The meeting that was convened by President Uhuru at Sagana State Lodge was highly confidential. The media was kept in the dark and those who had the privilege to attend the meeting were thoroughly frisked.
Mobile phones, watches and any other electronic appliance were not allowed at the venue. The President chose to speak in his native kikuyu language to drive the point home. The tone of the Head of State was harsh as he read the riot act directed to rogue leaders preaching the gospel against the handshake.
Tangatanga team alienated
Leaders allied to the ‘Tangatanga’ movement were sidelined as the President assigned roles to a few regional leaders to lead the BBI crusade.
Those leaders who spoke at the meeting were largely drawn from the ‘kieleweke’ camp. Former Nyeri Senator was the master of ceremony, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu spoke on behalf of Mt Kenya MPs and Ann Waiguru spoke on behalf of Governors. Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi was the one who invited the President to speak.
The meeting was also addressed by former Deputy Governor of Nairobi, Polycarp Igathe on behalf of the professionals. The event was also addressed by CSs James Macharia, Joe Mucheru, Margaret Kobia and PSs Kirimi Kaberia and Karanja Kibicho.
