President Uhuru Kenyatta declared an indefinite dusk to dawn curfew, effective from March 27. However, Kenyans were quick to react on how the government is prepared in fighting the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Political leaders have urged the President to enforce a nationwide lockdown in order to win the war against COVID-19. Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho is among the few political leaders who have persistently asked the Head of State to impose a countrywide State of Emergency.
South Africa and DRC are among African Countries that have imposed a nationwide lockdown.
Are Kenyans really prepared to absorb the shocks of a lockdown? Majority are agitating for a lockdown without fully understanding its repercussions, particularly to the low-class people. Lockdown involves the restriction of people’s movement in case of security lapse or health emergency.
During lockdown, the authorities will shut down the shopping malls, schools, offices and all public places. In preparation for a lockdown, people are advised to get the essential commodities such as non-perishable food, refill your gas cylinder, stock up enough food and buy enough drinking, cooking and washing water.
