President Uhuru Kenyatta, in his state of the nation address, expressed optimism in the war against the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Uhuru stated that the confirmed cases of COVID-19 had risen by 3 raising the total number to 28. One patient has fully recovered from the virus.
The President ordered the national treasury to grant tax relief to Kenyans earning a gross salary of Kshs.24,000 and below.
Senior government officials will earn less to spare funds that will assist the government in fighting the scourge of COVID-19. Uhuru urged other Kenyans to voluntarily have their salaries reduced.
The President and his deputy will have their salaries reduced by 80%, Cabinet Secretaries and Chief Administrative Secretaries salaries will be reduced by 30% and Permanent Secretaries salaries will be reduced by 20%.
In the Wednesday briefing, the President imposed a daily curfew from 7pm to 5am, effective from March 27.
