The numbers of Kenyans jetting back to the country is overwhelming, putting pressure to the identified isolation places. The increased number of international passengers is beyond the expected number. The selected hotels had not anticipated such numbers. The mess has largely been due to indiscipline and poor planning.
Passengers arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) have been hard hit by the stringent procedures they are subjected to, upon arrival. Dozens of passengers were stranded on Tuesday, for they had to wait longer before they were screened and picked up by the National Youth Service (NYS) bus to ferry them to the allocated quarantine facilities.
Dozens of them were unable to find accommodation at the selected places. Some of them were unable to meet the hotel expenses, an amount that was exceedingly high beyond their ability.
Those who were lucky to be booked mingled freely with the hotel staff and other people, oblivious of the danger they were exposing themselves to in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
