President Uhuru Kenyatta is scheduled to meet leaders from his Mt. Kenya region at Sagana State lodge on Friday. The meeting comes after the President has cancelled trips to Central Province four times. The agenda of the meeting is confidential.
The President is expected to address the raging animosity among leaders from his backyard who are aligned to two opposing camps, though highly classified sources allude that the President will address development matters.
Mt. Kenya region is the epicenter of Kenya politics and the President feel that leaders from his backyard might be easily swayed by the dynamics of succession politics at the expense of development. The President has in the recent past been bitter with leaders who are busy politicking at the expense of development.
Divisions over the yet to be released BBI report might form part of Friday’s agenda. The Building Bridges Initiative was the brainchild of Uhuru and Raila after the March 2018 handshake. Leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have been against the BBI project and the handshake in its entirety.
