Three people were arrested in Ngara, Nairobi while trying to break into the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the TIMS website. Two hackers and an employee of NTSA were arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The hackers, identified as Sylivester Onyango and Michael Onyango Oduor, were put behind bars on suspicion of cyber-crime offense.
The suspects were found with Sh.1.1M, USD 100, fiber laser cutting machine and three motor vehicles. They were using the fiber laser cutting machine to cut number plates. DCI sleuths recovered complete number plates, a compressor machine that is used for painting number plates, five computers, modems, flash disks, hard disks and logbooks.
DCI detectives also arrested Anthony Rugut, an officer in charge of the call center at the NTSA, for enabling the hackers to remotely access the NTSA network.
