Former Head of civil service Dr Sally Kosgey stated on Wednesday that she was tasked with writing both the victory and concession speeches for Uhuru Kenyatta in 2002 after he had lost the much coveted seat to Mwai Kibaki.
Uhuru Kenyatta had been proposed by Moi to succeed him, to the surprise of many people owing to his political inexperience at that time. Uhuru contested on a KANU ticket and suffered a landslide defeat by Mwai Kibaki led NARC.
The Deputy President William Ruto, in his previous interview by Citizen TV, said that he was directed by the late former President Daniel Arap Moi to write the concession speech with Uhuru Kenyatta.
Dr Sally Kosgey made the revelation of how things unfolded prior to the sunset days of the Nyayo era during Moi’s burial service at Kabarak.
The former Head of Public Service attributed her success to former President Moi. “Mzee during our first meeting made me promise him that I would pursue my education to PHD level,” Dr Sally Kosgey stated.
Dr Kosgey delved deeper in sharing her experience when she was working at State House and thanked the departed former President for the chance she gave her to serve in various capacities under him.
