Opposition leader Raila Odinga viewed the body of the departed President Daniel Arap Moi on Monday. Raila and his wife Ida arrived at Parliament buildings at around 1420hours. Raila lifted a fly whisky as he paid his last respect to Mzee Moi.
Raila had just arrived from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The fly-whisk is mostly used by the Luo community in mourning a revered elder.
Raila later met the family of Moi at a room adjacent to the entrance of the August House where he relayed his condolence message. He was received by Rongai MP Raymond Moi and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.
Initially, there were rumors that Raila will be barred from viewing the body over his alleged involvement in the abortive 1982 coup. Raila Odinga has been out of the country since the demise of former President Moi.
The body has been lying in State for three days. The late former President has been given full civilian and military honors, just as it was done to the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
There will be a 21-gun salute in honor of Moi during his burial, given that he is a former Commander in Chief of the armed forces.
