Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang’ has been cleared of treason charges he was facing after the mock swearing of opposition leader Raila Odinga as the people’s president. Raila had contested the 2017 Presidential results as not genuine, a move that led to its nullification by the Supreme Court. He urged his supporters not to participate in the repeat polls due to his mistrust to the integrity of IEBC.
The high court acquitted Kajwang after the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence linking him to the preparations of the swearing in.
Mr Kajwang’ had been accused of conducting an illegal oath to Odinga on the 30th of January 2018 at Uhuru Park, contrary to the constitution of Kenya. He was arrested alongside Miguna Miguna over treason charges, but was later on released on Ksh 50,000 cash bail.
The mock swearing in of Odinga led to the deportation of the self-proclaimed National resistance movement (NRM) General Miguna Miguna to Canada. The interior ministry and the immigration department failed to comply with court orders quashing the deportation of Miguna.
